Learn how to make the wire edge binding, a bookbinding and book arts structure by Daniel Kelm (USA).

Wire edge binding is a sophisticated method for hinging panels using metal wire and thread. Using this method, one can construct a wide range of objects, from books to moving sculptures. In this official tutorial by Daniel Kelm (made by Ben under Daniel's supervision), you will learn the wire edge technique by completing two projects: the codex and the accordion.

  • Level: medium-challenging
  • Two languages: French and English
  • Two projects: codex and accordion
  • 64 pages, full colour inkjet printing
  • This project doesn't absolutely require the use of heavy equipment, but a board chopper is helpful
  • This project makes use of a few unusual materials, a material pack is included in this kit.

  • This project makes use of thermoplastic film. At the time we shot the tutorial we used Fusion 4000, which is now discontinued. The following alternatives are possible : Pellon 725 Heavy Duty Wonder-Under / D&K Buffermount / LamoteX’s MasterMount / Bondaweb

  • Useful tools and materials for this project available from us: paper drill bitsquare

Watch Ben and Dan talk about the wire edge binding tutorial during the launch on 25th March 2023
